Gatchaman Crowds Insight – Episode 8

  • The title is “cluster”. Hopefully not the sense8 kind, because I don’t want to see creepy creatures having mind orgies.
  • Seriously, they’re trying to make everyone one?
  • They’re weird alien parents that try to comfort people?
  • It’s like a hugbox, only not people comforting each other, but politicians comforting the populace. That’s fucking terrifying.
  • Yay, Hajime-ssu “She hugged the alien” Ichinose isn’t jumping to “they’re totally friendly” conclusions this time. And you know she’s right because she’s never wrong. Like, ever.
  • Haha, someone agrees that they’re creepy.
  • “We’re just us” So they have no identity.
  • They also have no goals besides “make everyone one”.
  • “when you don’t know them”
  • This really seems to be demonising Gel-Sadra’s weight.
  • Of course she blames Berg-Katze for this.
  • More and more people have red and orange bubbles?
  • What.
  • So what does the red emotion even represent.
  • Wait, so people are going tribal against those who dare to still be unhappy after meaningless physical contact and insincere words?
  • What?
  • Well, one just up and swallowed a guy, so I don’t feel so bad about finding them so creepy?

gatchamancrowds8This show is such a mess. I get the feeling it wanted everyone to think those creatures were good, otherwise it wouldn’t have spent so much time on them.

Snow White with the Red Hair – Episode 7

  • Snow White’s all “you don’t have to protect my honour”
  • More love nonsense.
  • So bored with this dick-waving contest.

I think I’m kinda done, if it’s shunting the herbalism and plot aside for more conflicted feelings and misunderstandings. I liked it initially because it didn’t seem concerned with that.

Akagi (Drama) – Episode 6

  • So, he’s going to die right now? That’s no fun.
  • Unless he agrees to play while still dying?
  • Or Washizu realises how empty it feels, but it seems like he’s too dumb to do that.
  • At least say Washizu lost his money.
  • Yes, he’s still alive through sheer force of will.
  • I mean, how else could it have ended? There’s a full game left.
  • Nice. Of course he had something extra, too.
  • This soundtrack is so unsubtle, I love it.
  • “Cheap, cowardly trick”. As opposed to your secret savings, which were totally above board.
  • So glad they didn’t cut it off too soon. The lapse in tension was unconscionable.
  • Bleed Washizu dry.
  • Seriously, I just want him damaged in some way. Even if it’s just “oh no, I am a dumb baby who can no longer get my kicks from regular gambling, and the money means nothing to my empty soul”.
  • He’s already dying, might as well go all-out.
  • I love how well the tension works.
  • Washizu is really overestimating what he has to lose to this guy who’s nearly dead.
  • Argh, one more game.
  • Yes, bleed him dry. I hate how clunky that is, but can’t help it.
  • I hope Akagi’s death wasn’t for nothing.

akagi6This show is far too easy to get into.

Death Note (Drama) – Episode 7

  • At long last, it’s the part with the handcuffs.
  • This show isn’t nearly as fun as the anime when it comes to being over the top.
  • Their working together isn’t nearly as fun as when Light started out as an asshole.
  • Ooh. L is talking about possession.
  • That actually makes a bunch of sense as a conclusion to jump to, given that the methods of death were controlled.
  • Aw, while the recon stuff is cool, it means no handcuffs.
  • L is just plain cruel in this.
  • Light has changed. He’s more ruthless, regardless of whether he remembers that or not.
  • Ow, I just noticed that Light is wearing a white top, now that he’s lost his memories. Symbolism.
  • Near is way more involved in this than previously.
  • They’re doing an entirely white jigsaw puzzle. So symbolic.
  • I actually do like this exploration of how Light has changed.
  • Aw, he entrusted Near with finishing things.
  • …and apparently Mello is a split personality, after all.
  • I’m guessing that’s changed because two personalities means two names. Kill one, and the other’s still there.
  • Also, I do like that Misa is capable beyond being solely in love with Light.
  • Aw, Light saved his life.
  • Suddenly Light’s wearing darker clothes again.
  • And there we go. So neatly done.
  • Okay, writing it in blood is a bit much.

This adaptation has been really interesting so far. Not always good, but interesting.

Tribe Cool Crew – Episode 44

  • Drum training!
  • Oi, drumming will help you feel the beat.
  • I’m sad that I’ve never seen Tribe Cool Crew cosplayers. Those eyelashes would be hilarious.
  • Suddenly, it’s a Western for zero reason.
  • The abuse is just kind of glossed over.
  • Too stubborn to apologise in exchange for pudding.
  • Yay, it’s traditional dance.
  • Hadn’t seen Master T in a bit.

tribecoolcrew44I like how the preview is “finally here”. Even they know it’s taken a while.

Akagi (Drama) – Episode 5

  • Akagi’s just like “nope, not putting this back”. He’s prepared to die either way.
  • I figured he’d bargain with Washizu for it, but apparently not.
  • Honestly, the lung cancer and emphysema aren’t going to give him a very long life regardless.
  • Surely bringing out his extra savings is cheating? Unless he’d give Akagi some of his blood.
  • Trying to set up elaborate hands is dumb when it means Akagi can play almost anything before then.
  • He’s also far too focused on his own hand. No way that’ll backfire.
  • Sure enough, Akagi’s talking about how Washizu hasn’t noticed his own luck.
  • Hm. Is this where he’ll fail?
  • 100cc is better than 400, at least.
  • One-track-mind there, Washizu.
  • Suddenly, organ music.
  • Down to the wire, I guess?
  • I think my skepticism is that there’s a whole other game left.
  • 80cc is even better than 100, but I doubt that’s going to happen.
  • Hm.
  • Washizu, you are not a prophet. If you were, you wouldn’t be playing Mahjong to lose all your money.
  • Curious to see whether Akagi tries to bargain or not. Hard to tell, with a game left.

akagi5This show is really good at tension, even if you don’t understand the details of the game that well.

Death Note (Drama) – Episode 6

  • Kira totally left evidence. Planted evidence, but still.
  • This whole part is annoying.
  • Ah. Rem took her memory away? That gives Misa and Rem the tiniest pieces of agency this time.
  • You’d think an idol would be more tight-lipped about her boyfriend.
  • This seems even more stupid, because having real people highlights how unreal they are.
  • How do they differentiate between Kira and regular heart attacks?
  • Hm. Is there a third Kira in this version?
  • Ah. Yes, there it is.
  • The applause is legitimately creepy.
  • Oh. He’s given himself an ultimatum about the Death Note. The change fits, since it means he’d feel chosen to create a new world that way.
  • Saying that they’re friends doesn’t make it true in this version. He’s not guileless enough.
  • L’s aware a policeman’s kid might know how to fake a polygraph, right?
  • L is such a dick. Calling his dad to say “I still suspect him” is the worst.
  • Oh. Near is interfering early. Interesting.
  • I know he’s not going to shoot actual bullets, but damn.
  • Holy shit, L is still the worst.
  • Light’s dad is not long for this world.
  • Light, that’s some self-loathing you have there. It’s also so much more convincing when he was a decent person at the start.

deathnotedrama6Yay, the next preview has actual Light/L bonding.
